Lately a new sight has been cropping up at beaches and resorts all over. People waking up early for their usual morning exercise routine may spot groups of bathing suit clad stretchers warming up next to paddleboards. Is it an early paddleboard class? A strange new stretching routine? It’s Paddleboard Yoga. Combining the old with the new this sport provides the benefits of both practices with a fresh new outlook.
Yoga has its beginnings in the ancient traditions of India and has a rich history and following of dedicated practitioners who have years of experience. In contrast, the modern sport of paddle boarding got its start in Hawaii and is the fastest growing, trendy watersport in the world taken up by many young people. Opening our bodies and minds up to something new is good for our whole well-being and encourages a beginners mindset good for expanding a tired yoga practice. Physician and philosopher Debasish Mridha teaches, “Yoga is the dance of every cell with the music of every breath that creates inner serenity and harmony.”
Sounds great, “but how do I get started?” you may be wondering. Like any new journey it’s best to start one step at a time. The path to Enlightenment and inner peace isn’t a quick one. If you have some paddleboarding or yoga experience it may help. It’s also helpful to find a class or teacher to help at first.
As far as gear goes, any paddleboard will do, but the extras you may want to consider are a leash and an anchor to keep you attached and the board steady in the water. Be sure to wear clothes that allow you to stretch and get wet. A bathing suit is the “go-to” here, but spandex shorts and a top work well too. Avoid baggy pants. A wet suit may look tempting if you are concerned about the cold, but it impedes stretching and will get in the way more than it will help.
Choosing the right spot is important. You are looking for quiet water free of waves, wind or other boats disturbing your peace. Some classes are offered in pools to really ensure all goes well.
Take Deep Breaths! It’s all about the balance. In both paddleboarding and yoga breath control and maintaining a calm exterior will help you stay afloat. Slowly move about half the speed you would on land. Strong bodies and calm minds are medically linked, so don’t worry, clear your mind of the day’s troubles, and focus on whatever it takes to keep your spirit afloat (literally and figuratively). Gazing at the horizon and centering yourself around the board’s center of balance (handle inset) will help you stay in balance.
Start with beginner poses. No matter what level of yogi you have achieved, it’s good to start with these easy poses and grow to feel the balance as you get used to the experience. Avoid any twisting poses to start. Maintain two points of contact with the board at all times. Poses like trees and eagles that have only one point of contact are tricky and generally cannot be done on a paddleboard. Move your poses upward and incorporate lunges and standing salutations as you grow more confident. Remember, if you shift your weight too fast you are going to get wet! Try these to start:
- Easy Seated Pose – Moving slowly find the board’s center of balance and sit comfortably, cross-legged for an easy first pose.
- Child’s Pose – Lay face down, knees tucked under you, and arms outstretched above your head. This is a relaxing pose to come to and regain your inner balance when you need a break.
- Downward Facing Dog – From Child’s pose, put weight on your hands and push up with your legs until your bottom is above you in an inverted “v” shape.
- Plank – This pose is great for building strength in the arms and core, but is also great for standup paddleboard yoga because it keeps your weight close to the board. Lay face down on the board and simply push up with your arms until your back is flat and parallel with the paddleboard.
Let’s face it, doing the same old thing all the time can get boring, but if you take your favorite yoga routine and transfer it to a stand up paddle board you are automatically giving yourself and your body variety without changing a single move in your sun salutation. Your body is stretching and working to keep balance while you are enjoying the sun and the breeze and calming your mind.
It may look intimidating at first but it’s a fun and adventurous group of people who try out SUP (stand up paddle boarding) Yoga. What are you waiting for? Give it a try and let your new friends welcome and support you on the journey to yoga enlightenment.

A 3D dental scan is used to provide better and more personalized care for their patients.
The Different Types of 3D Scanners Used in Dentistry
There are many different types of 3D scanners being used in dentistry. This includes cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), laser profilometry, and structured light.
CBCT scans enable dentists to not only inspect the patient’s teeth above and below the gum line but also analyze the anatomy of their skull to check for potential mandibular issues.
Laser profilometry 3D scanners, on the other hand, measure the shape and surface of the teeth in great detail and provide a more detailed 3D model. Structured light 3D scanners use a light pattern to measure the texture, surface, and overall shapes of objects.
Uses of 3D Scanners in Dentistry
3D scanners are used to capture images of the interior of a patient’s mouth. It provides a digital preview of the end result of upcoming procedures. The use of this technology helps dentists better plan and execute treatment plans, as well as improve their accuracy of diagnosis.
They can also be used in restorative dentistry to reconstruct missing teeth, veneers, and crowns. It allows dentists to provide their patients with a more natural look to their smile. Also, it can help detect small gal lesions or fractures before they become a bigger problem.
Accuracy and Safety of 3D Dental Scanners
3D scanning technology allows for a very accurate representation of the physical object. This in turn allows a dental professional to accurately create replacements and restoration molds.
When it comes to treating more complex dental conditions, 3D scanners create an in-depth picture of the condition allowing for more accurate and precise treatments. The accuracy and safety of 3D dental scanners help dentists make better and more informed decisions, reducing the potential for mistakes.
Learn More About 3D Scanners for Dentists Today
3D scanners have multiple benefits for dentists in their everyday practice. The most notable being the accuracy and speed in which quick and precise scans can be completed.
The technology also allows dentists to previsualize and modify treatment plans. This gives them a better idea of the outcome of a procedure before it says is complete. 3D scanners reduce X-ray exposure for patients, keeping them safer and reducing potential costs for dentists.
